El festival de Toronto es uno de los principales termómetros para medir el favoritismo de un película de cara al Óscar. Hoy se anunciaron algunos títulos que competirán en este encuentro cinematográfico. La mayoría está dirigidas por cineastas con vasta experiencia en Óscar.

Entre los principales estrenos destaca Roma, nueva película del mexicano Alfonso Cuarón. El cineasta regresa después del éxito de Gravedad. El filme fue adquirido por Netflix y se estrenará a fines de este año. Se rodó en México.
También figura First Man, la nueva obra de Damien Chazelle, alabado por su trabajo en La La Land. Ganó el Óscar a mejor dirección y por primera vez deja los musicales para embarcarse en un drama. Se trata de una biografía de Neil Armstrong. Esta película lo vuelve a unir a Ryan Gosling, a quien también vimos en La la land.
Beautiful Boy es otra cinta que llama la atención del festival de Toronto por su actores. Se trata de Timothee Chalamet, quien protagonizó, Llámame por tu nombre, y recibió su primer Óscar por este trabajo. Lo acompaña en el reparto Steve Carell, nominado a mejor actor por su trabajo en Foxcatcher.
También se estrenará en el festival de Toronto, Star is born de Lady Gaga y Bradley Cooper, con buenos comentarios obtenidos en su primera exhibición.
